Bontril
Appetite Suppressant & Diet Pill
|
 |
USES: Bontril
is an appetite suppressant which, when is used in conjunction with
an overall diet plan, can reduce weight.
HOW TO TAKE THIS MEDICATION: Bontril
should be taken on an empty stomach, 30-60 minutes before breakfast,
once a day. Slow-release (or "long acting") products must
be swallowed whole. If the medicine is crushed or chewed the long
action properties of the product will be destroyed which may cause
increased side effects. As Bontril can cause sleeplessness, avoid
taking this medication late in the day. Take Bontril as prescribed.
Do not take this medication more often or longer than directed.
Bontril is usually taken for a period of 8 to 12 weeks. It is not
recommended that this medication be used in combination with any other
appetite suppressants. It is recommended that you consult your doctor
before such use.
SIDE EFFECTS: Bontril can cause blurred
vision, dizziness, dry mouth, sleeplessness, and irritability. Stomach
upset or constipation may occur within the first few days of use while
your body adjusts to the medication. Inform your doctor if any of
these side effects persist or become troublesome. If you experience
chest pain, pounding heart, difficulty urinating, nervousness, mood
changes, breathing difficulties or swelling when taking this medication
please tell your doctor. If taking Bontril makes you feel dizzy or
lightheaded, avoid driving or participating in activities that require
alertness.
PRECAUTIONS: Inform your doctor of your
complete medical history (particularly if you suffer from emotional
problems, high blood pressure, over-active thyroid, glaucoma, or diabetes.
Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant, or if you are about
to begin breast-feeding. Bontril can be habit forming and therefore
must be used with caution. It is advised to limit alcohol use while
taking this medication as it can increase unwanted side effects, such
as dizziness. Bontril is not recommended for use in children. For
any further information consult your doctor or pharmacist.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor
about any medicines that you use, (including both prescription and
non-prescription) particularly if you take medicine for high blood
pressure or MAO inhibitors (for example, furazolidone, selegiline,
phenelzine or tranylcypromine) or other weight loss drugs. Avoid any
drugs that may increase your heart rate or blood pressure (known as
"stimulants") like decongestants or caffeine. Over-the-counter
cough and cold medicine often contain decongestants.
NOTES: Appetite suppressants are not
designed as a substitute for a proper diet. For maximum effects, Bontril
should be used in conjunction with an overall diet plan and exercise
program. This medication should not be shared with others.
MISSED DOSE: If a dose of Bontril is
missed, do not double the stated dose. It is recommended that you
skip the missed dose return to your normal dosing schedule.
STORAGE: Store Bontril at room temperature.
Keep away from moisture and sunlight. Bontril, as with all medications,
should be kept out of the reach of children.
