USES: Meridia is an appetite suppressant which, when is used in conjunction with an overall diet plan, can reduce weight.

HOW TO TAKE THIS MEDICATION:
Meridia should be taken on an empty stomach, 30-60 minutes before breakfast. The full effect on your weight may require four to six weeks to become noticeable. You must not increase your dose, take it more frequently or use it for longer than prescribed as this drug can be habit-forming. The tablet can be broken or cut in half, but must not be crushed or chewed. If you use Meridia for an extended period of time, do not suddenly stop using it. You must first seek your doctor's approval. Over a period of time, Meridia may become less effective than it was at the beginning of your treatment. You should consult your doctor if your weight begins to increase.

SIDE EFFECTS:
These include a dry mouth, constipation, drowsiness, and difficulty sleeping. If any of these side effects persist or become troublesome, notify your doctor immediately.

PRECAUTIONS:
Inform your doctor of your complete medical history, particularly if you suffer from any allergies (especially drug allergies), liver or kidney disease, history of stroke or seizures, certain eating disorders (e.g., anorexia nervosa), high blood pressure or heart disease, glaucoma (narrow angle), or history of gallstones. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning pregnancy. It is unknown as to whether this drug is excreted into breast milk, so breast-feeding is not recommended while using this drug (consult your doctor before breast-feeding). It is advised to limit alcohol use while taking this medication as it can worsen certain side effects. Elderly patients are advised to use this drug cautiously as they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. For any further information consult your doctor or pharmacist.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor about any medicines that you use, (including both prescription and non-prescription) particularly if you take weight loss medicines (for example, diethylpropion), any drugs that can raise blood pressure ( such as decongestants, for example pseudoephedrine or phenylpropanolamine). You must also consult your doctor if you take any cough suppressants (for example, dextromethorphan), antidepressants (for example, nefazodone, fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, fluvoxamine, venlafaxine), lithium or other psychiatric medications (for example, MAO Inhibitors such as selegiline, moclobemide, furazolidone, phenelzine, tranylcypromine), drugs for migraines (for example, dihydroergotamine, sumatriptan), tryptophan, erythromycin, high blood pressure medicine, certain narcotic pain relievers (for example, meperidine, pentazocine, fentanyl), ketoconazole, or any drugs which can cause drowsiness (including certain antihistamines, for example, diphenhydramine), sedatives and anti-seizure drugs. Many non-prescription drugs for cough and cold contain antihistamines and decongestants. You must not take Meridia if you are taking MAO Inhibitors (see above). If you stop taking an MAO Inhibitor or Meridia, you must wait al least 2 weeks before starting the other drug. Consult your pharmacist if you have any queries.

NOTES:
Appetite suppressants are not designed as a substitute for a proper diet. For maximum effects, Meridia should be used in conjunction with an overall diet plan and exercise program. This medication should not be shared with others. Pulse and blood pressure tests along with laboratory tests may be performed to monitor side effects.

MISSED DOSE:
It is recommended that if you miss a dose of this medicine, you should take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose of Meridia, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule. Never take 2 doses at once.

STORAGE:
Meridia should be stored at room temperature (between 59 and 86 degrees F, or 15 and 30 degrees C). It should be kept away from light and moisture. As with all medicines, Meridia should be kept out of the reach of children.
