USES: Propecia
is an androgen hormone inhibitor designed to treat male pattern hair
loss. It is to be used by MEN ONLY. This revolutionary drug is the
first and only FDA-approved pill that has been proven to treat male
pattern hair loss on the anterior mid-scalp area and vertex (top of
the head) in men.
THE FACTS:
For most men, Propecia works. 2 years of testing

Male pattern hair loss is the most common form of balding. It represents
almost 95% of all hair loss cases. Mild to moderate male pattern hair
loss is known to affect about half of men by the age of 50. Male pattern
hair loss results in receding hairline and/or balding at the crown.
This form of hair loss is due to heredity, from either side of the
family (the mother’s or father’s side) and is dependent
on hormones.
Hair loss and DHT.
DHT is a hormone in the male body. DHT is important
to man’s development early in his life. However, DHT appears
to be a cause of hair loss in men as they age. DHT affects the hair
follicle by shrinking it until it is no longer able to produce visible
hair.
Doctors believe that excess DHT in the body is an apparent cause of
hair loss.
There are many possible causes for hair loss,
though none are well defined. However, researchers have found that
men with male pattern hair loss have higher levels of DHT in the balding
area of their scalps. Human hair grows, falls out and then grows again
as part of a cycle of growth. Increased levels of DHT are believed
to contribute to the shortening of the growth phase of this cycle,
and the speeding up the period of hair loss. As a result, the hair
on the scalp thins.
Propecia is designed to block the formation of DHT.
Scientists have now found a way to affect the
formation of DHT using a prescription medicine to be taken once a
day in tablet form. Finasteride, which if the active ingredient in
Propecia, blocks the formation of DHT. In this way, it appears to
interrupt a key factor in the development of inherited male pattern
hair loss. Propecia has been scientifically proven to effectively
lower DHT levels in the scalp.
