(tretinoin emollient cream)

USES: This
medication has been developed to improve of the appearance of the
skin by reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It reduces roughness and
improves coloration. Renova can also be used to treat acne.
HOW TO USE THIS MEDICATION: This medication
is for use on the face as directed, and should be used usually once
a day just before bedtime. Ensure that the face is dry before use.
Then, using a very small amount of Renova cream (pea-size amount),
clean the face. Being careful to avoid the eyes, nostrils and mouth.
After use, make sure that you wash your hands. Using this medication
in large amounts or more often than prescribed is not recommended
as it will not give you faster or better results, but will increase
the risk of side effects. Do not use this medication on eczema, sunburn
or any other serious skin conditions. The effects of this medication
will occur gradually. Most of the improvement will seen in the first
6 months of continued treatment. Acne sufferers may find that their
condition worsens at first, but then improves.
SIDE EFFECTS: During your treatment,
you may suffer with a mild redness or stinging of the skin. You may
also experience itching, burning, skin scaling, peeling and dry skin
during the first few weeks of treatment as your body adjusts to the
medication. If you find that any of these side effects continue or
become troublesome, notify your doctor and immediately discontinue
your treatment.
PRECAUTIONS: Before taking Renova, notify
your doctor of any pre-existing skin disorders or allergies that you
may have. Renova will increase your sensitivity to the sun, so limit
your sun exposure to the Sun and Sun lamps while using the treatment.
When outside, use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing. It is
recommended that, during pregnancy, this medication should only be
used when clearly needed. You should first, however, discuss the risks
and benefits of use with your doctor. You should consult with your
doctor before breast-feeding as it is not known if this drug is excreted
into breast milk.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: You are advised to
inform your doctor of any prescription or non-prescription medication
that you are taking. This includes tetracycline or quinolone antibiotics,
isotretinoin, amiodarone, sulfa-drugs or phenothiazines as they are
known to increase the skin's sensitivity to the sun. Minoxidil and
any skin medication, cosmetics, soaps, cleansers, astringents or any
facial products that may cause drying or irritation (for example,
facial products that contain alcohol). This medicine should not be
applied at the same time as Benzoyl peroxide.
NOTES: This
medicine is not a cosmetic. Renova is designed to be used in conjunction
with a comprehensive skin care and sun avoidance program.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose of Renova,
you should apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is nearly
time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal
dosing schedule. Never take two doses at once in order to catch up.
STORAGE: Renova should be stored at
room temperature (between 59 to 86 degrees F and 15 to 25 degrees
C). This medication must not be frozen. Renova, as with all medications
should be kept out of the reach of children.
